HalalKhao ("we", "our", or "us") operates the HalalKhao mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.
Account & Data Deletion
You can delete your HalalKhao account and all associated data at any time. There are two ways to request deletion:
- In the app (immediate): Open HalalKhao and go to Settings → Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm, and your account and data are deleted immediately.
- By email: If you no longer have the app installed, email [email protected] from the address associated with your account and request deletion. We will verify and complete the request within 30 days.
What is deleted: your account login, profile (name and email), saved favorites, gamification progress, blocked-user list, reviews, check-ins, custom lists, and your community posts and comments. This data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
What is kept: we retain no personal data after deletion, except where a limited record is required by law (for example, transaction records related to subscription purchases held by Apple or Google). Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your name and email address.
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's precise location to show nearby halal restaurants and to retrieve local prayer times. Location is used only while the App is in use and is never stored on our servers. To provide prayer times, your coordinates are sent to a third-party prayer-times API (Aladhan) to return times for your area; they are processed in real time and not retained.
- Usage Data: We use the content you create in the App (such as the favorites and lists you save) to provide and improve features. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
- Review Content: Any reviews or ratings you submit are stored and may be displayed publicly within the App.
- Purchase Information: Subscription purchases are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card details. Purchase status is managed via RevenueCat.

- To provide personalized features such as saved favorites and reviews
- To show halal restaurants near your current location
- To process and manage your premium subscription
- To send transactional emails (welcome, subscription confirmation)
- To improve and maintain the App

3. Data Storage and Security
Your account data and reviews are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), which is hosted in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and Firebase Security Rules to restrict unauthorized access.
While we take reasonable precautions, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share data with:
- Firebase (Google LLC): Authentication, database, and storage services.
- RevenueCat, Inc.: Subscription and in-app purchase management.
- Resend: Transactional email delivery.
- Law enforcement: If required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
5. Location Data
Location access is requested only when you use location-based features (such as nearby restaurants and local prayer times) and only while the App is in the foreground ("When In Use" permission). We do not track your location in the background, and your location is never stored on our servers. When you view prayer times, your coordinates are sent to a third-party prayer-times API (Aladhan) to calculate times for your area; this happens in real time and the data is not retained.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access & Correction: You may update your account information within the App settings.
- Deletion: You may permanently delete your account and associated data at any time directly within the App, under Settings → Delete Account. Deletion through the App is immediate. You may alternatively request deletion by contacting us at [email protected], and we will process such requests within 30 days.
- Location: You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
- Marketing Emails: You may opt out of non-transactional emails by contacting us.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account within the App, your personal data is removed immediately. If you request deletion by email instead, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. We may retain limited information where retention is required by law.
9. Third-Party Links
The App may display links to third-party restaurant websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
